Time and Rate Control Release

The third product concept of TSRL's technology portfolio is a rate and time controlled release drug delivery formulation. This technology allows for delivery of drug candidates to either specific intestinal sites or releases drug at predetermined time points in a pulsatile or controlled release fashion. Both our solubility and permeability enhancing formulations can be combined with this modified release formulation.

We have recently completed a clinical proof-of-concept study with a poorly soluble compound which is also subject to a high intestinal first-pass metabolism. The compound was formulated with TSRL's hydrophilic solubilization technology (HST) and delivered to the ileum in order to circumvent the high levels of metabolizing enzyme levels in the upper GI tract. The study clearly demonstrated significantly increased absorption and substantially reduced metabolism of the test compound. This illustrates the versatile utility of the various formulation technologies TSRL can offer to clients to "mix-and-match" delivery approaches that meet the desired oral exposure characteristics of drug candidates.
